Episode 6 - Jewell & Hyde?
I'm just saving a place here - I'm still nauseous from last night's episode.
I'll post a review on Wednesday.

Re: Episode 6 - Jewell & Hyde?
Does anyone think it would do any good to send e-mails to our local NBC affiliates complaining about the quality of the program and how they have destroyed the show? I know e-mailing NBC would be a waste of time.

Re: Episode 6 - Jewell & Hyde?
I posted this in a thread on the NBC Message board...
Russ
I am amazed that some folks on this board, who were not Nashville Star viewers in the past, seem to think that it's a good thing that this show has become "American Idol Light" or something...
For the record, I was very excited when I heard that the show was moving to NBC, because of the exposure the show and the artists would get...thereby increasing ratings for the Network and Reveille.
Ahhh...(Sigh!) that was before, we all found out that the format was to be drastically changed to what it has evolved into this year...I know ratings drive the networks decisions, but the producers of this show made a fundamental mistake in judgement...They obviously assumed that country music fans would still follow the show because some of the artists wore a cowboy hat and sang with a twang. NO NO NO! They misjudged their sophistication, so ,instead of maintaining that demographic that they had in their back pocket, they have lost it (maybe permanently) and now have to rely on viewers who wouldn't know a country song if they tripped over it and think it's great that this show is not showcasing the best Country Music and Talent!
I hope NBC can redeem themselves next year by treating Country Fans with respect by making Country Music "Talent" their priority. Come on NBC... "Auditions" NOT "Casting Calls!" The superficial trappings they have installed with this show this year didn't work...
My hope is that NBC can achieve the ratings they are hoping for by appealing to the original fan base of the show by providing a "Quality Product". By doing so, and by presenting it to the increased viewership that NBC provides, the ratings are bound to increase to their best expectations!

Re: Episode 6 - Jewell & Hyde?
Well said Russ. It hurts me to watch the entire show each week but especially this past week. UGH! What are they thinking?

Re: Episode 6 - Jewell & Hyde?
I'm sorry, but I simply couldn't bring myself to review the 6th and 7th episodes. I'll force myself to watch the finale, but it's really a non-event, IMHO.
Here's my brief overview of the past two weeks:
John and Jewel seem to have lost any reservations about telling the world how great John Rich and Jewel are. They're arrogant and self-absorbed, and they need to watch Jeffrey Steele to see how they should be behaving.
Gabe is likable but very boring, with a severe lack of Charisma.
Shawn is talented but has a problem keeping her emotions in check.
Melissa is a cross between Wynona (with a lot less talent) and Brandi Gibson (with a better attitude). However, every performance is over the top, and reminds me of a small-town beauty pageant.
Coffey... where do I start? He's not country, he's not appealing, and he's got no business being on this show.
I vote that we just treat this like season a certain season of Dallas, and pretend that it was all just a bad dream.

Re: Episode 6 - Jewell & Hyde?
The only thing really good about last night was Coffey finally got what he should have gotten a long time ago -- the boot. I don't know how he or anyone else could think he is country, or that he can even sing.
I actually considered voting last night, but I couldn't decide between Gabe and Shawn and it doesn't really matter anyway. Neither is really ever going to be a Nashville Star.
Oh, almost forgot -- and I vote it was a non-season.
